MSF Basic RiderCourse

Learn to ride and earn your Colorado motorcycle license endorsement in one course.

Beginner MSF MSF Curriculum
Price
$425
Includes
eCourse + 2 range days
Duration
5 hr online + 10 hr on-range

Ideal for those wanting to learn to ride a motorcycle, or with limited motorcycle riding experience. The course provides the skills and knowledge needed to ride a motorcycle, and helps you earn your Colorado motorcycle license endorsement without any additional DMV testing.

A 5-hour self-paced eCourse is followed by 10 hours of on-motorcycle riding training across two consecutive days, led by an MSF-certified RiderCoach. Each range class is capped at 8 students. A motorcycle and helmet are provided at no charge.

The course concludes with a written knowledge test and a hands-on riding skill evaluation. Passing both earns your course completion card — which waives the Colorado DMV testing requirements for your motorcycle (M) endorsement.

Exercises include

  • Motorcycle familiarization
  • Using the friction zone
  • Starting & stopping drills
  • Shifting & stopping
  • Pressing to initiate & adjust lean
  • Stopping quickly & tight turns from a stop
  • Limited-space maneuvers
  • Stopping in a curve & curve judgment
  • Multiple curves & lane changes
  • Crossing obstacles & swerving

Top questions for BRC

You must be at least 14 years old and have a valid driver's license, learner's permit, or state ID. Riders under 18 will need a parent or guardian at day-one check-in to sign a waiver in front of the RiderCoach — they only need to stay through check-in.

Start with the Basic RiderCourse (BRC). It assumes no prior riding experience and provides the motorcycle and helmet at no charge. After you finish, you can take the BRC2 down the road if you want more practice with your own bike.

For the Basic RiderCourse (BRC), helmets that meet our requirements are provided at no charge — though you're welcome to use your own. If you're taking the BRC2, please bring your own helmet (available if needed). Either way it must be at least a 3/4 helmet with DOT approval.
